Welcome to Island Hopping in the Andaman Sea of Thailand
Scuba Diving the Andaman Sea of Thailand
Dive operators in Phuket use the Racha Islands as their main daytrip destination, however, they are too far away from the southern islands of the Andaman Sea and will not be visited from Lanta Island and further South. Other 3 main dive sites are Shark Point, Anemone Reef and the King Cruiser Wreck, that can be easily reached from Phuket, Phi Phi Island and Krabi. Dive operators on Phi Phi Island head out to the same destinations as those on Phuket. The most popular dive sites being those surrounding the Phi Phi Islands. Dive operators on Ko Lanta head out to the same destinations as those from Phi Phi Islands, but most popular are the dive sites southwest of Lanta Island, that include the great southern dive sites of Ko Ha, Ko Rok, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang.
Diving in South Thailand is easy, as you will find reputable dive operators in every destination. All operators will offer daytrips and liveaboard dive safaris to destinations described within this website as well as PADI Dive Courses from beginner level all the way through to Instructor Development Courses. The Dive SitesBida Nok & Bida Nai
There are two rocks called
Bida Nok and Bida Nai that lie south of Phi Phi Island and can be reached
within 1.5 hours from Koh Lanta. This is the place to watch for schools
of ocean going pelagics like tuna and mackerel and see some leopard
and possibly nurse sharks. Maya Bay
Maya Bay is one of the
most beautiful lagoons to imagine and belongs to the south isle of Phi
Phi. It is surrounded by rock walls that shelter a white sandy beach.
Sharkpoint, Anemone Reef & the Kingcruiser Wreck
Sharkpoint consists of 3 pinnicles
jutting out of a fantastic coral garden. Numerous scattered, rock formations
give shelter to innumerable tropical fishes and some leopard sharks.
Visibility is between 5 and 25 metres. The main feature of the Anemone
Reef is in the name already. Hin Bida
Hin Bida is an underwater
reef about 1 hour west of Koh Lanta by boat. From November to
December leopard sharks can be observed during their mating game, while
whale sharks are passing the reef during March and April. Ko Ha Ko Ha is a group of five limestone rocks rising out of the water 45 meters deep. They are reached within 1.5 hours from Koh Lanta and offer steep walls dives, small caves, tunnels, canyons and two gigantic caverns. Where the walls fall down to 30 metres, whale sharks have been observed. Visibility is between 10 and 30 metres. Ko Waen
Ko Waen fascinates by a
variety of rock formations and a real underwater road network. A cave
system washed into the rock reminds one of Swiss cheese. Ko Rok Nok & Nai
A journey of 2.5 hours takes you to the twin islands of Rok Nok and Rok Nai. A real underwater coral garden with countless coral fishes, immense barracuda swarms, turtles and lobsters can be found there. The beaches are among the most beautiful South Thailand has to offer.
